2023-2024 Reflection

This school year has brought incredible opportunities to our group.  We began solidly as a two class format, with a large number of four-turning-five year olds, into successful movement to our multi age Montessori class solidly becoming a team, welcoming CES students this summer graciously and warmly.  The class has solidified into a group of globally kind and equity focused individuals who seek to build lasting relationships through the practices we ask for in school and outside of school.  This exploration and observation of the wisdom quotes and lens has brought continued light on the power of this daily work of living Inclusively and action-voice for what matters ecologically, socially and culturally to listen and observe verse judgment and closed views or assumptions.  We are so proud as educators to offer time and space for practice of such life skills in social emotional anchorings and are inspired every single day.

Congratulations to all the children and families.   We were able to share collective creativity, innovation, adaptation, and great love and care to the school community, and the greater world we live in by sharing trusting space while practicing this new world of defining the way we seek to be with each other and “showing what we know” through daily practices of kindness.

Congratulations to all families during the many transitions in these early learner years.  Thank you for the care you all showed teachers, the school community celebrating our foundations of connection, to learn together as an amazing team.  Mahalo for riding the river securely together.  Such sweet inspirations of connection.  You all have offered this school space with an inspiring level of presence, interest and kindness.

Thank you Teachers Deb Wallace, Austin Merrill, Toby Leibowitz, Celena Becerra for your incredible skill-set talents founded deeply in the value of “follow the child” with each young person you mentor.  Thank you for supporting so tenderly the Montessori absorption and practice and offering time to lead such meaningful and enriching circles and 1-1 lessons through the year adapting so smoothly and supportively.  You all have been such a continued grounding delight to call family-friends, and such a gift to witness the kindness and inquiry you all offer Klahanie children and families as well as your intuitive and educated background, we are so fortunate for your specialties and love!  We offer Celena the most loving and supportive send-off to University of Hawaii and enjoyment of learning to come!  Klahanie is always your home-nest to land back into for rejuvenations dear friend.

Thank you to our talented Specialists and incredible Interns Perla and Tallulah, you absolutely exceeded anything we could have hoped for in such smart, attentive, kind, creative, hard working, and mature highschool interns.  We are so fortunate, thank you so deeply for such incredible support you both showed our program, we welcome you back always!   Thank you Klahanie School parents for your daily presence, smiling eyes, vulnerabilities and loving strength!  You inspire the world by being You.

Wishing you all a joyful August on our gorgeous islands.  Keep your connections thriving and inspiring the island along the way.

Forever Young

Song and Lyrics by: Bob Dylan

May God bless and keep you always,

May your wishes all come true,

May you always do for others

And let others do for you.

May you build a ladder to the stars

And climb on every rung,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous,

May you grow up to be true,

May you always know the truth

And see the lights surrounding you.

May you always be courageous,

Stand upright and be strong,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy,

May your feet always be swift,

May you have a strong foundation

When the winds of changes shift.

May your heart always be joyful,

May your song always be sung,

May you stay forever young,

Forever young, forever young,

May you stay forever young.

Klahanie School has officially begun the American Montessori Society Accreditation.  Below description of the benefits from the AMS website describing the benefits as well as process.  and connected to our school intention for diverse, broader opportunities for children in our community for high quality early education, AMS School Accreditation

Opportunities for Co-Accreditation

AMS is recognized by the National Council for Private School Accreditation, a national organization that serves as a review panel for the standards and review procedures of private-school accrediting agencies.  Every school that is accredited by AMS gains automatic recognition by NCPSA.

In addition, AMS partners with more than 20 other national and regional accrediting associations, enabling you to participate in cooperative accreditation. The cooperative accreditation process is seamless and results in 2 valuable accreditations. You complete 1 self-study and host 1 onsite visit with representatives from both associations. Cooperative accreditation demonstrates compliance with both Montessori-specific standards and with school standards that apply to non-Montessori schools. You can find a listing of the accrediting agencies with which AMS partners in the AMS Accreditation Handbook, included as part of the AMS Accreditation Information Packet.

Recognition by State Policymakers

At AMS, we proactively advocate with state-level policymakers on behalf of our accredited schools. The result? AMS accreditation is increasingly recognized nationwide, granting our accredited schools significant advantages that may include:

  • Recognition at the highest level of their state’s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS), a systemic approach to assessing, improving, and communicating the level of quality in early and school-age childcare and education programs.
  • Possible exemption from state child-care licensing requirements
  • Access to exclusive state funding sources available only to accredited schools.
